Writer Tools and Things
Below are a few tools, apps, and other things that I use to write, read, and stay focused.
Scrivener
I adore Scrivener. I’m a plotter, and Scrivener makes it so easy to outline, move scenes around, and stay organized. It has a bit of a learning curve, but if you start with a tutorial on YouTube, you’ll get the hang of it in no time, and you’ll forget how you ever lived without it!
Microsoft Word
As much as I love Scrivener for writing, it’s just not built for working with an editor. Microsoft Word is the industry standard for publishers, editors, and even some POD printers. You can get it for $7 a month or buy it outright for $150. It’s worth the investment if you plan to publish your work.
Freedom
If you have trouble staying on task because of social media or the internet in general, Freedom is the app for you. Freedom will block social media or the entire internet according to a schedule you set up yourself. I have a lifetime subscription to Freedom.
Brain.fm
Brain science + music! I love Brain.fm so much I bought a lifetime subscription. Brain.fm uses an AI composer that mixes science and music to help you focus, relax, or sleep better. Your subscription will work with either your computer or on your phone with their app.
Kindle Paperwhite
I used to have a Kindle Fire, but it grew too heavy for me, and its screen was hard to read in the sun. I bought this Paperwhite to replace it, and I’m so glad I did! It’s light, the screen has no glare, I can read it in any light, and the battery lasts FOREVER.
Elegant Themes
Like my website? Lisagilliam.com is a WordPress website, and I use the Divi theme by Elegant Themes. It’s robust and so easy to use. Absolutely no coding knowledge required! With this theme, you could build a really attractive author website with very little technical know-how.
